Event Details

In years past, we’ve gathered for World Refugee Day—hundreds of us, shoulder to shoulder—to say it loud and clear: “Georgia Loves Refugees!” Although shoulder-to-shoulder isn’t possible this year, our love and appreciation for our refugee and immigrant neighbors hasn’t changed.

Please join the Coalition of Refugee Service Agencies (CRSA) for our first ever DIY World Refugee Day—Saturday, June 20—where we’ll provide the virtual inspiration and the actual tools you’ll need to make the day a meaningful one wherever you are. Our day will feature a mini, socially-distant parade, free take-home World Refugee Day Kits, and plenty of opportunities for advocacy!

Steps for DIY World Refugee Day:

  1. Show up at the Refuge Coffee Drive-Thru any time from 10am until 2pm on June 20. We’ll have separate stations for folks in cars and those who wish to walk up—please wear a mask and observe 6ft distance
  2. Decorate your car with messages, flags, and symbols of your culture, or dress in traditional clothing (or your #GALovesRefugees tee!) There will be prizes—and a photographer!
  3. Play your own music or roll your windows down and enjoy the Refuge Coffee Global Playlist—we’ll have it cranked up just for you!
  4. Pick up your DIY World Refugee Day Kit—it’s totally FREE, and it will give you prompts for your unique and personal celebration of the day, including a coloring page and chalk for the kids, discussion questions for the whole family, a couple of special gifts, and a few reminders that #RefugeesAreEssential and #GALovesRefugees!
  5. Fill out a postcard to Governor Kemp and your state representatives and ask our elected leaders to take action to protect refugees, immigrants, and all essential workers
  6. Once you get home, send a pic of your World Refugee Day chalk art to Governor Kemp!

On World Refugee Day we celebrate the incredible strength and resilience of the refugee community and recognize the invaluable contributions that they bring to our state. Many refugees and immigrants are deemed essential frontline workers—nurses, health aides, grocery and food processing workers, pharmacists, delivery drivers—and have continued to work and sacrifice throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Join us this #WorldRefugeeDay and raise your voice to ensure refugees, immigrants, and all essential workers in Georgia receive the protections and support that they need and deserve.
